Avery's popular tale of school life was first published in 1906. In this edition, probably the second, E.H. Shepard adds characteristic verve to the illustrations. Scarce in this condition.

BLPC gives the latter and records two editions, neither of which matches the present copy. Here the pagination matches the first edition of 1949, though the imprint is Children's Press (not Collins). A scarce survival in this condition.

With the prize bookplate of Harrow School (dated 1907) on front paste-down. A handsome copy of the first single-volume edition, based on the two-volume first edition of 1890. This edition retains Nansens's preface, adds a new preface by Longman and preserves the great majority of the illustrations of the original.
