Although Bocking is a village in Essex, the title of Dean is bestowed upon the rector of Hadleigh in Suffolk. It was at Hadleigh Deanery that the Oxford Movement was born in 1833 to change forever the modern Church of England. Presentation copies are very scarce.‎

First edition of Archbishop Benson's famous 'Lincoln Judgment', following the ecclesiastical trial of Edward King, Lord Bishop of Lincoln, charged with eight ritual offences carried out in the Diocese of Lincoln. One of the most important ecclesiastical trials relating to the Oxford Movement, the case delivered two fundamental judgements. First, a binding legal decision on certain disputed questions of ritual, and secondly that the jurisdiction of the archbishop of Canterbury alone is sufficient to try one of his suffrgan bishops. A rare survival.‎

ANTHONY WAGNER'S COPY WITH HIS SIGNED HOLOGRAPH INSCRIPTION ON FRONT FREE ENDPAPER. Sir Anthony Richard Wagner (1908-1995) was one of the longest-serving members of the College of Arms of the twentieth century, and one of the most prolific authors on heraldry and genealogy. He joined the College in 1931 as Portcullis Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary (in which position he acquired and signed this copy). During the next sixty years or so he occupied most of the major offices, including Richmond Herald (1943) and Garter Principal King of Arms in 1961. In 1978 he retired to the subordinate position of Clarenceux King of Arms and concentrated on the cataloguing of his extensive professional library. Scarce. Cordeaux & Merry 7926.‎
