The dust jacket now in Mylar has small chips at the head of the spine and a small closed tear near the bottom of the front panel else fine. NEAR FINE/VERY GOOD. All well almost all of the never before collected sayings of America's beloved humorist actor news commentator goodwill ambassador author philosopher and humanitarian. This book assembled for the first time 531 of Will's deathless remarks many from personal letters some from speeches and radio broadcasts a few from his books the majority from the daily columns he wrote for newspapers. Dealing with the country the people the government politicians congressman diplomats business lawyers bankers presidents in general and the ones Will knew well Theodore Roosevelt Taft Coolidge Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt. This collection is a loving contribution to the perpetuation of the memory of a great American. Asheville circa 1920's. 31 pages. One diagram in the text. Original printed tan wraps 23.5 cm with illustrated ad on rear wrap. Bound into later black cloth with gilt spine lettering. Ex-library with small ink stamp on front wrap several marginal stamps tasteful bookplate on front pastedown and small remnant of a removed call number sticker on the front board. Cloth binding is otherwise fine; pamphlet is otherwise good only. Top half inch of front wrap excised and filled-in with paper of a near match in color. Upper corners damped throughout in no way impacting text. FIRST OF THIS EDITION. An apparent reprint of a 1884 pamphlet issued under the same title which listed the co-authors as E. L. and F. P. Love. The work includes advice on growing tobacco pp. 11-21 as well as recipes and instructions for curing it. The present edition includes a form bound at the front which obliged the purchaser to pay the author fifty dollars unless the purchaser complied with these terms: "not to impart or disclose to any one save those employed by me in the curing of my own Tobacco any information touching the curing of Tobacco embodied in said book and not to cure by said process any Tobacco but my own." The pamphlet is dated based on this form which has the partially printed date "192_." The pamphlet includes a multitude of testimonials from farmers pp. 24-30 dated 1880-1884 apparently reproduced from the first edition of the work. Franklin P. Love 1850-1925 was a native of Pittsylvania County Virginia and it was there that the book was written. By the time the present edition was printed he had moved to Asheville North Carolina and his mailing address near that city is given on the front wrap. On the last page and on the rear wrap is a "Notice" advertising Love's various services as a veterinary surgeon. RARE. This edition not in OCLC or NUC both of which list only a 1892 edition and together find only three copies of the same Buncombe Co. Duke Va. Hist. Soc. No other works by either author are found. Not in Thornton or Haynes. n.p. hardcover
