The Seljuk Sultanate of Rum was a Turko-Persian Sunni Muslim ruled state, established over conquered Byzantine territories and peoples (Rûm) of Anatolia by the Seljuk Turks following their entry into Anatolia after the Battle of Manzikert (1071). The sultanate's monetary sphere of influence lasted long and coins of Seljuk mint, generally considered to be of reliable value, continued to be used throughout the 14th century, once again, in the Islamic world including by the Ottomans.
