Come una confessione postuma di chi nel suo lungo pellegrinaggio omerico ha conosciuto il bene e il male. E ne ha tratto talenti per una ideale banca della saggezza, o da disperdere in affilate denunce. Questo viaggio è un eterno vagabondaggio dai coloratissimi esordi universitari, fino a una sorta di contemplazione del vissuto. Gli accadimenti continuano a scorrere sotto agli occhi dell'autore-protagonista, come in quelli del lettore. E ancora ritroviamo nella prosa limpida del narratore l'occasione per una avventura dello sguardo e della conoscenza.
