Best.-Nr. B9783540081791Paperback / softback. New. The placenta of the guinea-pig has assumed exceptional importance among the discoidal hemochorial placentae since the end of the sixties. Up to that date numerous studies had been published on the functional analysis of the human placenta. One shortcom- ing common to all these studies however was the fact that the human placenta was not absolutely suitable for morphological research owing to fIxation difficulties and for experimental investigations virtually unsuitable. Since other hemochorial villous placentae like that of the anthropoid apes primates were practically unobtainable a possible alternative was sought among the I;tcunal placentae. The numerous studies on the guinea-pig placenta undertaken at the turn of the century favoured the choice of this organ as it also belonged to the discoidal hemochorial type like that of man. The fact that its structure was not villous but lacunal and therefore showed a different cir- culation seemed even advantageous in this case. The lacunal system facilitates differen- tiation in morphologically distinct areas which allow independent functional analysis. The morphological and histochemical studies made during the past decade by Enders 1965 Vollrath 1965 Miiller and Fischer 1968 Kaufmann 1969a Davidoff and Schiebler 1970a b King and Enders 1970b 1971 Davidoff and Gospodinoff 1971 Davidoff 1973 Kaufmann 1974 have led to the discovery of a large amount of new information on this organ thus rendering it one of the most precisely examined placentae so far. paperback

FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- 380 pages. -- with a bonus offer--; In its golden years of the Baroque era Poland expressed creative ties to east and west in extraordinary works of fine and decorative art. This gorgeously illustrated book displays more than 150 works of art that celebrate the cross-cultural richness of Poland's creative output during this period. From the dramatic uniform of the winged Hussar complete with feathers and leopard skin to traditional portraits of royalty to a Turkish-style beverage service these splendid objects represent Poland's diversity and breadth at a time when it was the largest land empire in Europe stretching from the Baltic to the Black Sea. The book addresses five areas of Polish culture in the sixteenth through eighteenth centuries. The first section on the monarchy features objects relating to the kings who ruled during the period. The second section of the book is devoted to the magnate class and the objects that were typically seen in a nobleman's home. The third part presents religious artworks highlighted by an important seventeenth-century painting of Our Lady of Czestochowa. The section on the military focusing on the cavalry offers highly decorated battle regalia weapons and a Turkish tent. With gilded cups clocks decanters and more the decorative arts section of the book provides outstanding examples of the cross-cultural tenor of the Baroque era. The volume includes essays that set the art of Poland in the context of its history geography and culture; a timeline of major events; a map of the Polish Commonwealth; a glossary; a useful bibliography; and an index of exhibited works. . 1999. 0300079184 .
