1982ref. 002013Thames & Hudson LONDON 1982 Cloth. Fine/Fine. First Edition. Olive Cook was one of the great topographical writers and this book is something close to a masterpiece. She guides but does not hector. She dscribes but avoids being flowery. And this book contains that rare combination of harmonious prose and pictures. Evocative and wonderful photographs by the great Edwin Smith an unpretentious but subtle photographer. Clean and tight book in a clean and intact jacket which is protected. The first printing - way back in the 80s - meant that the plates were fresh sharp and original. Subsequent editions become worn unlike today's digital files where the first impression is not necessarily different to the 20th! These lovely shots are illuminating and tinged with nostalgia inevitably but they have a superb reportage quality as well. 0.0 0.0 0.0. Illus. by Profusely Illustrated. 1st Edition. Hardcover. 1966ref. 000694London: Routledge and Kegan Paul 1966 1966 Cloth. Fine/Very Good. First Edition First Impression. Signed by Author. Rare first edition hardback even scarcer as a signed copy. The author's fourth collection. Great work here including the poem - 'The Sermon' - which was commissioned by the BBC for its ground breaking Arts Programme 'Monitor' most fondly remembered. Especially when you compare it with most of the tv arts coverage now. Goodness that makes me sound an old grump but it's true. Anyway this is good stuff from a damn good poet and the book is in clean and tight condition. Jacket is a bit grumpy too but it has no tears or creases and is now protected. Very collectable indeed and genuinely a rare book to find in this signed state. 0.0 0.0 0.0. Signed by Author. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. London: Routledge and Kegan Paul, 1966 hardcover
