2003ref. ABE-1641916274402Everyman 2003 Superb copy of this important and riveting classic. This is the first printing of the Everyman Edition. Protected perfect unclipped jacket. Gorgeous binding elegant typography; a book to treasure. With an enthralling chronology and a first rate introduction by Richard Dawkins this a perfect example of what John Updike said 'This Everyman series is the edition of record.' Today this still reads like a thriller. Okay it is a cerebral thriller but in combination with the Voyage Of The Beagle it is still a stirring account and a vitally important text. 1st Edition. 19718vo. First Edition with plates and facsimiles in the text; terracotta cloth gilt back blue endpapers a very good bright clean copy in unclipped dustwrapper. WITH AN A.L.s FROM THE AUTHOR LOOSELY INSERTED. The letter is dated 18 September 1974 and written from Meynell's residence at The Grey House, Lavenham, Suffolk. It is highly characteristic, referring as it does to the design shortcomings of a published document -'the matter of the Report is full of interest - but its presentation - ugh! What conceivable justification is there for the vast head-of-page margins (and diminutive tail-margins) on type pages - made all the sillier by the full page arrangements of illustrated pages.' A copy of a newspaper obituary of the author is also included. A SPLENDID ASSOCIATION COPY OF MEYNELL'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY , ACCOMPANIED BY A TYPICALLY FORTHRIGHT CREATIVE OPINION FROM ONE THE LEADING BRITISH DESIGNERS AND TYPOGRAPHERS OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY.

1969ref. 001473New York: Knopf 1969 1969 Cloth. First Edition First Impression. Signed by Author. Cheever has SIGNED this first edition on the front endpaper. A major novel located in familiar Cheever country. Book is clean and tight with a previous owner's inscription on the half title. The binding is square and tight but there is a hint of lean to the spine and the top edge of the cloth is a tiny bit sunned. The corners are unbumped. 1983198 pages including index and bibliography. "Here are the simple facts of the great betrayal. Wilson and House knew that they were doing something momentous. One cannot fathom men's motive's and this pair probably believed in what they were up to. What they did not believe in was representative government. They believed in government by an uncontrolled oligarchy whose acts would only become apparent after an interval so long that the electorate would be forever incapable of doing anything efficient to remedy depredations." - Ezra Pound, from Introduction.
