First illustrated edition; the text was published in an abbreviated form in 1869. This report was initiated by an outbreak of disease in a large number of Texas cattle that had been shipped north and landed in Cairo Illinois. The disease quickly spread and a government response was requested through the House of Representatives. A team lead by the English Professor of Veterinary Medicine James Gamgee and the botanists H. W. Ravenel of South Carolina traveled to Texas to find the origins of the diseased live stock. In an attempt to better illustrate their findings of the impact of the disease on the lungs spleens hearts and kidneys they employed the latest technology of chromolithographic printing and micro photography to produce highly legible detailed images of damaged organs. The color printed plates and photographs were produced in Baltimore by the Hoen & Co Chromolithographers and they demonstrate the use of color printing for medical research. 295. A scarce legislative document of the short Republican time of liberalism in Spain -- the terminal year of the "Trienio Liberal" or Three Liberal Years. The three years referred to ran between 1820 and 1823. During this short interlude a liberal government ruled Spain -- following a military uprising in January 1820 led by the lieutenant-colonel Rafael de Riego against the absolutist Monarchy of Ferdinand VII. King Ferdinand agreed to accept the legitimacy of the liberal Spanish Constitution of 1812. During the Trienio Ferdinand was still officially King but was really more-or-less held in captivity as a prisoner of the Cortes for the next three years and retired to Aranjuez. The elections to the Cortes Generales in March 1822 were won by Rafael del Riego. In December 1822 at the Congress of Verona the Quintuple Alliance countries United Kingdom France Russia Prussia and Austria reached an accord holding that a Spain that could be thought of as republican constituted a threat to the balance of powers in Europe. France was chosen to force a restoration of the absolute monarchy in Spain. On 7 April 1823 the French army said by the French King to consist of "one hundred thousand men under the banner of St. Louis " crossed the borders into Spain. Riego took command of the Third Army and resisted the invaders as well as local absolutist groups. On 15 September he was betrayed and taken prisoner. Riego was taken to Madrid and his name ceases to be mentioned in the index to these papers of the "Cortes. " His pleas for clemency from the King were refused and Riego was found guilty of high treason against altar and throne. The main organizing charge against him was he was one of the members of these Cortes -- the Parliament who voted in favor of taking the power from the King. November 7th 1823 he was hanged at La Cebada Square in Madrid. OCLC 912076335 locating copies only in Biblioteca de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Universidad de Granada. Biblioteca. A work based upon Ray's Synopsis methodica stirpium Britannicarum, though not a translation of it, but is the first systematic account of British Plants in English. Wilson was a man in humble circumstances, a shoemaker, at Kendal. There is a good story about him in Pulteney's 'Sketches,' of how he was once sorely tempted to sell his own cow to buy a copy of Morison's 'Historia Plantarum,' and how a benevolent lady intervened and made him a present of it. In later life he became a teacher of botany, and removed to Newcastle, where his book was published. Henrey, 1501.

Purchasers are earnestly requested not to loan their books.' On the title page is the autograph ownership of: 'Francis Shoemaker, 51 S. Wharves.' He was a merchant with an extensive trade in Cuba, and the Caribbean, and is listed in the Directory. Text printed in two columns. It includes: the names of the citizens alphabetically arranged, with their occupations and places of abode; a list of the streets, alleys, lanes, courts, roads and wharves, banks, insurance companies; national and their societies, literary, scientific and charitable institutions; Custom House Department, Post Office, churches with their pastors and sextons, foreign, consular and other agents, resident abroad and in the United States, &c. There is also a chart of Regulations (for the ringing) of the State House Bell in Case of Fire. Many examples of this directory includes an Almanac, but here that is replaced by: The Will of the Late Stephen Girard, Esq Procured from the Office for the Probate of Wills, with a Short Biography of his Life. Philadelphia: Published by Thomas and Robert Desilver 1832. The controversy over the Will of Stephen Girard (1750-1831) was of great interest in this era. His large estate was divided - with $140,000 given to relatives and charities; $300,000 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania "for internal improvement by canal navigation"; his real estate in Louisiana (208,000 acres) he left to New Orleans; $500,000 he left to Philadelphia to create Delaware Avenue, clean up the waterfront, pave, remove all wooden buildings and other projects to improve the city. The bulk of his estate was left to create what became Girard College, to educate the poor white orphan boys with a trade. His will gives instructions about the College, both physical and administrative. Some of Girard's heirs contested the will in what became a "classic in American legal history, contributing not a little to the clarification of the law of charities" (DAB). Robert Desilver was an entrepreneurial Philadelphia publisher who became famous for his maps, directories, and almanacs. S&S/AI 33704 & S&S/AI 12613; Spear. p. 282. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! JUN5 Box 5
