1957réf. C1055501957. Fair. Typed unsigned 1 page letter on Blue Harbour Port Maria Jamaica printed note paper dated 28th of March 1957. Indubitably from and by Noel Coward and unpublished. Bought with a collection of letters to Frederick Ashton and Anthony Quayle. Dottie is likely to be Quayle's wife Dorothy Hyson - a good friend who had been in the film of his play 'Blithe Spirit '- she was known as 'Dottie' and had worked at Bletchley Park in WW2. It reads-"" My Darling Dottie. I did so love your funny letter and of course all the pretty things you had to say about ""Nude"" his recent pay Nude with a Violin did my old heart a power of good so I now feel a common low down ungrateful pig for not having written before to thank you.I was so glad to hear that mad Maxine was the one who bought my picture silly girl and that it is to come to a rather convulsive rest in her gracious home. I thought perhaps you meant that you were getting a seat on a banana boat this year but evidently I was wrong à however that is for another time and you can always look on me as you said as a prospective host! You will have to look sharp is all I can say if you want to catch the darling Feet Jamaican expat family who were friends as I believe their time is up next year. I am very fond of them à almost a foot fetish à and have just come back from a little jaunt with them to the Cayman Islands near here. All very fascinating as the islands are tiny and sparsely populated and inbred like mad in spite of being strict Baptist with the result that that they jibber and shake all over you but I didn't mind really I rather liked it. Now I'm going off on a few more Island hops à Puerto Rico Dominica and the Virgins if you will pardon the expression. Vasco di Gama had nothing on me. Phoebe and Herbert Hart Jamaica residents Phoebe made amazing rugs are going to have a dear little baby I expect you know that. Coley Cole Lesley NC's close friend keeps muttering will I give you his love so I suppose I'd better or else I shan't have a minutes peace. Heaps and heaps from me and I'm coming to Vieux Angleterre this summer so we will meet n'est ce pas At the bottom of the page he has signed off as 'The Prettiest and the Best' - this is followed by four inked X's. Chipped at edges sl wear slightly used but text complete. unknown
