1962réf. 1901201233Helsinki: Filmpojat OY 1962. 1st Edition 1st Printing. No Binding. Fine. A superb example of an original Finnish cinema-lobby poster for Helvetilliset better known by its English-language title Carnival of Souls. Herk Harvey's cult-classic premiered in Finland 02.11.1962 at the one theatre only in Helsinki and you can bet it disappeared quickly - I am amazed that the extremely conservative Finnish film-certification board approved its distribution at that time. The poster is a standard Finnish lobby-poster for the era A2 format approximately 15.5 x 22.5 inches 40cm x 60cm. Full-bleed no artist information indicated. A folded poster originally with resulting crease to the middle but not unduly noticeable due to the rich colouring. At the right edge middle there is a nick to the paper of approximately 1 cm in length - again this is hardly noticeable due to the black background at that place. There are neither pinholes nor sellotape/clamp marks to the corners suggesting that it may not have been displayed. The colouring is strong and vivid and compares very favourably to the rather drab US version of this movie poster. Some minor handling creasing to the edges is visible only from the verso - this is an excellent condition example Fine. Extremely rare only the second example we have acquired in over 20 years. We describe all noticeable faults in our movie posters but for best appreciation of condition please examine the high resolution image which accompanies the listing. Filmpojat OY unknown

Designed by Engel signed in the plate lower right. Approximately 16.5 × 24.5 inches 42 × 62 cm. Finnish tour posters were printed for distribution to regional cinemas and venues - clubs village halls and spaces outside the main cities - following the initial theatrical run. They occasionally survive unused when demand was low; this is one such example. Condition: C8/9 Very Fine or better. Rolled - no folding crease. Small crease to the top right corner and further creasing along the bottom six inches of the right edge. No pinholes paste residue or clamping marks. Unused. An original Finnish tour poster for Devil Monster 1946 also known as The Sea Fiend and The Great Manta the American action-adventure horror film starring Barry Norton and directed by S. Edwin Graham. A re-edited version of the 1936 original first screened in Helsinki at the Aloha Theatre in July 1947 dating this poster to later that year. Printed by Kirjapaino Jaakkoo Osakeyhtiö Turku est. 1936. Approximately 16 × 23 inches. Finnish tour posters were printed for distribution to small regional cinemas and venues - clubs village halls and other spaces outside the main cities - following an initial theatrical run. Narrower and longer than standard lobby posters they typically included space for venue screening times and ticket prices. They occasionally survive unused when demand for the film was low; this is one such example. Condition: C8 Very Fine. Unused unfolded no pinholes no paste residue no clamping marks. Verso unmarked. Small tear to the left margin at midpoint; small handling crease lower in the same margin. Otherwise excellent and clean throughout. Astor-Filmi O.Y. unknown
1966réf. 1901201270Helsinki: Vainan Filmi Oy/Universal 1966. 1st Edition 1st Printing. No Binding. Fine. An original Finnish first-release film poster for François Truffaut's Fahrenheit 451 starring Julie Christie and Oskar Werner. The film premiered in Finland on 2 December 1966 at the Elysée cinema in Helsinki. There are no recorded cinema re-screenings in Finland and it was next broadcast there on television in 1982. Fahrenheit 451 was Truffaut's only English-language film and also his first colour film. The poster measures approximately 16 × 23.5 inches the traditional Finnish A2 format used for cinema display posters. No artist information is recorded. Condition: C8. The poster is in stunning apparently unused condition. The faintest traces of a fold line are visible only under strong light chiefly towards the outer margins. There are no pinholes clamping marks or paste marks. It appears never to have been displayed and seems to have been stored flat. The principal condition points are minor handling marks: a crease at the lower-right corner a smaller crease at the upper-right corner a microscopic chip at the upper-left corner and light creasing to the top and bottom margins. These are noticeable only on close examination and are difficult to see at normal viewing distance. An excellent example of this rare 1960's Finnish film poster now exceptionally difficult to find in such well-preserved condition. Vainan Filmi Oy/Universal unknown

1953réf. 08082108Finland: Warner Bros 1953. No Binding. Fine. Original Finnish tour poster for Strangers on a Train directed by Alfred Hitchcock. First screened in Finland on 7 March 1952; this poster carries a printed date of 1953 indicating it was issued for subsequent regional touring screenings. Measures approximately 27 x 13.25 inches. The format is worth noting. Standard Finnish tour posters of this period run to approximately 24 x 13 inches; this example is notably taller bringing it closer in proportion to the Italian locandina format. At the foot of the poster is a blank margin where one would normally expect printed headings for handwritten completion of screening times dates venue and ticket prices suggesting this copy escaped distribution entirely and was never put to use in the field. Three folding creases unusual for a tour poster but otherwise in Fine unused condition. Minor handling crease to the upper right corner; no pinholes no adhesive residue. The blank margin and overall freshness strongly suggest this is an undistributed example. A fascinating and extremely rare piece of Hitchcock memorabilia. Warner Bros unknown
1934réf. 16082108Finland: Kosmos-Filmi Oy 1934. 1st Edition . No Binding. Fine. A fascinating Finnish A2 "small" one-sheet cinema poster for the classic Soviet-era comedy-musical Jolly Fellows aka "Moscow Laughs" and "Jazz Comedy" directed by Grigori Aleksandrov. The film was made in 1934 and was hugely successful. It's director Aleksandrov Sergei Eisenstein's long-time co-director won numerous accolades and attracted the attention and praise of Graham Greene amongst other notable critics. The film was first screened in Finland in 1934 by Kosmos-Filmi Oy a distributor and importer of Soviet films. No subsequent releases or even screenings are recorded. However Kosmos-Filmi requested a new inspection from the Finnish Film Classification board in 1958. We believe this poster was created at that time to accompany a new screening possibly in one of the Russian-owned cinemas located in Helsinki at that time. Accordingly the print-run and distribution of this poster would have been very very limited. It is a remarkable find. This particular poster is a non-standard size of just under 23" x 15" approx. It is in fantastic condition - Near Mint - unfolded and with no pinholes. There is a tiny chip to the top edge and some minor rubs along the left edge with minute loss of colour. Signed by the artist in the plate. Exceptionally well preserved clean and bright otherwise and lovely graphics - a superb example of vintage cinema art and design. Kosmos-Filmi Oy unknown
1953réf. 08082101Finland: Columbia Pictures Corporation 1953. 1st Edition . No Binding. Very Good. First Printing. A vintage original and quite unique Finnish cinema-used poster for the first screening in Finland of the movie SIREN OF BAGDAD starring Paul Henreid. The film was first screened in Finland in 1953 with no further subsequent releases. Approximate size is 60 cm by 40 cm standard Finnish A2 format. SIGNS OF USE: the poster has centre-folds in both directions and pinholes to the corners and centre - quite large holes at the bottom corners. To the verso of the poster is a large original drawing for another movie - The Red Beret. That film was screened in Finland in 1954. Unfortunately the drawing is not signed and therefore likely to be the work of a cinema employee pressed to come up with something due to the absence of a real poster for an imminent screening. At the bottom is written in Finnish "Tuesday 8pm" suggesting it was actually used. Overall in VG condition and the drawing on the verso is just a huge bonus for any collector of cinema memorabilia. For the best appreciation of condition please study the accompanying photograph which is high resolution. Columbia Pictures Corporation unknown
