1892réf. 002524New York: D. Appleton and Company 1892. Joseph Le Conte 1823-1901 was a physician and scientist who was a co-founder of the Sierra Club with John Muir. Resident and working in the South during the Civil War he harbored racist views of Reconstruction; Quercus finds this ironic considering his later academic career and fame at UC Berkeley. First published in 1888; this is a Very Good copy of the Second Edition containing Le Conte's revisions of the previous version. Olive green cloth binding tanned to a brown shade on the spine which has gilt lettering. Clean text; 392 pages with 12 pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. Mildly bumped and with some wear visible at the margins; chipped at head and foot of the spine. A solid copy if not the most beautiful. Second Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. D. Appleton and Company Hardcover
