2016New English Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English. 79, [1] p. A new discourse, dialogue and democracy against discrimination ASULIS. Translated by Liz Erçelik Amado, Irazca Geray. Founded under the Hrant Dink Foundation, ASULIS Discourse, Dialogue, Democracy Laboratory has been designed as an interdisciplinary space to engage from experimental studies and research in the field of discourse studies to conduct discussions on methods to combat discrimination as well as discriminatory discourse and its consequences. The word asulis, which is composed of the combination of the verbs asel (to say) and lsel (to listen) in Armenian and commonly used as conversation and chat was chosen as the name of the laboratory. ASULIS represents a first in Turkey in terms of an organization to engage in activities on discourse studies. The gathering resources on discriminatory discourse, hate speech, discourse analysis, etc. for the ASULIS Collection established under the Hrant Dink Foundation Library is still in process. The first ASULIS report is prepared with the main support of Open Society Foundation and contributions of Istanbul Policy Center and Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs' MyMedia Programme based on its preparation process during the 2014-2015 period. The sections of the report include short definitions of different concepts (such as hate speech, discriminatory discourse and dangerous speech), the research conducted on hate speech between 2009-2015 by the Foundation, suggestions for the laboratory's methods and areas of work based on the meetings and panels organized during its preparatory process as well as the vision, mission and structure of ASULIS.

1998" Olga Broumas has chosen poems from the full range of Odysseas Elytis's Nobel Prize-winning poetry, including his early work when he was associated with the Surrealists, to the entirety of his long poem The Little Mariner, as well as a previously unavailable selection of his last poems, written shortly before his death in 1996. Elytis himself offers the best description of his work: "If a separate personal Paradise exists for each of us, mine must be irreparably planted with trees of words which the wind silvers like poplars, by people who see their confiscated justice given back, and by birds that even in the midst of the truth of death insist on singing in Greek and saying eros, eros, eros". 2009New English Original bdg. HC. Oblong 4to. 165 b/w photos and 2 maps. B/w ills. 240 p. In English edition. Mint. In 1920s Sinasos, now Mustafapasa, was a Cappadocian town with a population of 30, mostly made up of Greeks. Located five kilometers south of Ürgüp, the town was known as the pearl of the east for its peculiar architecture, educated and talented inhabitants. Greek inhabitants of the town forced to leave their homeland in connection with the population exchange between Turkey and Greece did something unprecedented before evacuating their beloved town: They hired two photographers to take the photos of their town and eternalized it by collecting the photos into an album. Including the churches, mansions, schools, bridges and fountains the album reflected the scenes of daily life, entertainments, local costumes and various aspects of the community of Sinasos. This book by Evangelia Balta who has a deep knowledge about the history of Greek communities in Cappadocia enriches the album with the visuals from private and institutional archives in Greece and combines them with the accounts by the old inhabitants of Sinasos. An abstract from the foreword by the editor, Evangelia Balta: The photographing of Sinasos, in July 1924, constitutes a unique phenomenon in the behavior of the Cappadocian population during the dramatic period of the Exchange of Populations. The place is printed on photographic paper, in order to immortalize as image and memory the immaterial essence of time and place, in order to transfer it and to safe-keep it together with the other heirlooms in the new homeland. Greek refugees who visited the land of their fathers 25 or 35 years after the Exchange are photographed in embrace with their Turkish compatriots, friends from the old days, who wander companionably with them through Sinasos and its environs, as if the tragic event of the Exchange had never happened, as if life was re-mustering its forces. Today, locals and refugee Macedonian Turks, and I with them, we feel, we dream that this whole 'world' is truly ours. All emanate an uplifting human warmth. Memories of living and dead compose a thrilling whole. Wise is the maxim that still adorns the doorway to the Rizos house: "Today mine, and tomorrow someone else's and never no one's".
