Juste avant la mort du roi Léopold Ier en 1865 un troisième type a été publié dans lequel le premier monarque de Belgique était représenté en vue de côté. Le 1er juillet 1891 le premier timbre bilingue est apparu avec le nom du pays en français et en néerlandais sur les timbres.
