Bound in stiff paperback binding with a ephemeral brown paper covering with watercolor decorations on rear and front panels as well as spine. There are several minor stains to this decorative outer wrapper and the spine is slightly darkened; minor rubbing to the extremities including several tiny chips not affecting watercolors. Protected in custom stiff archival mylar. The text is illustrated by six aquarelles watercolors by G. P. Joumard. No date of pulbication is listed circa 1930. This Dutch-language translation of Daphnis and Chloe is from the French of Jacques Amyot 151393 Bishop of Auxerre by Johannes Brouwer and has => four drawings by C.A.B. Bantzinger. It was printed in an edition of 1000 numbered copies on "Old Dutch" paper by G. Schut in Heelsum with typography by Johan H. van Eikeren. The title-page is in black and red. The translator chose to use Dutch language analogous to Amyot's 16th French eschewing a modern rendering. Searches of NUC WorldCat and COPAC locate => no copies in U.S. libraries and only the British Library copy in the U.K. Publisher's original light boards with illustration on front cover and title and author on spine all in red; faintly sunned with edges lightly worn.
