Erckmann-Chatrian was the name used by Emile Erckmann 1822-1899 and Alexandre Chatrian 1826-1890 who both specialised in military fiction as well as ghost stories and co-wrote these works together. They wrote a range of works together from 1847 to the mid-1880s when they had a quarrel and would not produce any more stories jointly.
