1940réf. 007790New York: Henry Holt and Company 1940. First American Edition. Cloth. Near Fine. Funny funny funny! With delightful illustrations. 4to. 28 by 20.5 cm. 92 1 pp. The translator Rosemary Benet was the wife of poet Stephen Vincent Benet and was also an author in her own right. Jean Bruller the illustrator was also a novelist whose best known work is "Le Silence de la Mare". The lightest of wear to the book itself -- light wear of blue fabric in corners and spine tips and gentle age toning of leaves. The dust jacket has minor close tears and shallow edge chipping with some light soiling flattened creasing etc. Dust jacket now protected with mylar. About as nice a copy overall as one is likely to come by. Henry Holt and Company unknown
1932réf. 003859Paris: Editions Mornay 1932. Limited Edition. Full Decorated Calf. Very Good. 8vo. 20 by 15.5 cm. 329 pp. Original wraps bound in. Since there is no number to this copy it is presumed this was one of the 55 copies produced "hors commerce". Regardless the full calf binding is special with its watercolor cameo centerpiece of a sailboat on the front the floral vignette on the back and portrait of Shelley on the spine. Alas the calf is heavily rubbed along the joints with starting by the lower rear joint and the spine is darkened and heavily rubbed. Inside the book is clean and fresh with the color illustrations uniformly a delight. Editions Mornay unknown
