Daß er in Basel gewesen habe ich aus seiner eigenhändigen Beyschrift in eins seiner Bücher die er bessen ersehen: vermuthlich hat er da studirt und auch seine medicinischen Doktorwürde empfangen. Aus ähnlichen mehreren Beyschriften zu schließen ist er 1619 als Leibarzt nach Güstrow gegangen; lange aber mag er es dort wohl nicht gemacht haben denn wenigstens 1623 befand er sich schon wieder in Cassel wo er wie vorhin schon als prakticirender Arzt lebte einen botanischen Garten gehabt und im Lande umher die Kräuter aufgesucht hat. Aus dem Leben des Dän. Medikus Olaus Wormius daß vor dessen Epistel-Collection stehet und der sich 1611 in Cassel befand ersiehet man daß Gillenius um dies Zeit auch die Aufsicht über das L. Morizens chymisches Laboratorium geführt habe. Gestorben ist Gillenius in Cassel 1633 in seinem 47ten Lebensjahre; am 12. Febr. ist er in der Stiftskirch begraben worden; der damalige Prediger Joh. Majus hat in das Kirchenbuch daher ich die Nachricht habe beygeschrieben: "Medicus eximius & Practicus felicissimus insuper vir bonus & urbanus. ."." Jan. 1619 erhielt seit 23. Juni 1621 zu seiner Besoldung noch 4 Drömpt 8 Sack Rogen 4 Drömpt Gerste einen Ochsen 4 Hammel und 4 feiste Schweine ging wahrscheinlich nach dem Tode der Gemahlin des Herzogs Elisabeth gest. 16. Decbr. 1625 Tochter d. Landgrafen Moritz von Hessen-Cassel nach Cassel zurück. Er starb dort 1633. ."
