He served as editor of The Progressive Farmer for 65 years beginning in 1899. He was prominent in pushing for reforms in Southern agriculture to make it more scientific and to improve rural conditions in the South. He served on the State of North Carolina Board of Agriculture the advisory council of the United States Department of Agriculture and on the National Commission on Farm Tenancy as well as chairing the North Carolina Hospital and Medical Care Commission appointed by Governor Broughton in 1944. Poe was praised by many in North Carolina and the South for the work he did for agriculture. However he is also well known for promoting a program of rural racial segregation in North Carolina due to the rapid increase of African American farm ownership in the early twentieth century. He was motivated both by modern social Darwinist assumptions and by his concern that the rise of black farm owners was undermining poor white farmers' ability to compete. In the end white planters fearing the loss of their labor successfully opposed his rural segregation plan. He worked with his wife's stepmother and aunt Cora Lily Woodard Aycock to publish The Life and Speeches of Charles B. Aycock in 1912. He served on the board of trustees of the North Carolina State College. Clarence Henderson Poe 1881-1963 was an editor publisher and author who grew up on a farm in Chatham County North Carolina. In 1897 at sixteen! he went to Raleigh and became an associate editor for the Progressive Farmer newspaper. He purchased the paper in 1903 and organized the Agricultural Publishing Company. He served as president until 1954 and remained as an editor and board chairman until his death. The paper absorbed other journals and papers and became a leading publication in the south in the mid to late 20th century. Poe was constantly interested in agricultural issues and ideas and his trip to Europe in 1908 was not just a pleasure trip. Although he writes as a traveler and tourist he also offers especially towards the end of the book ideas and opinions on helping to create a stronger South in the U.S. In his book he always has an eye on a country's resources whether for beauty or production. It is clear in the later chapters that he was constantly seeking what could improve life in the South. Mutual Publishing Company hardcover

Poe is believed to have written "The Bells" in May 1848 and submitted it three times to Sartain's Union Magazine a magazine co-owned by his friend John Sartain until it was finally accepted. He was paid fifteen dollars for his work though it was not published until after his death in the November 1849 issue. It was also published in Horace Greeley's the New York Daily Tribune newspaper on the front page of its October 17 1849 issue as "Poe's Last Poem". Inspiration for the poem is often granted to Marie Louise Shew a woman who had helped care for Poe's wife Virginia as she lay dying. One day as Shew was visiting Poe at his cottage in Fordham New York Poe needed to write a poem but had no inspiration. Shew allegedly heard ringing bells from afar and playfully suggested to start there possibly even writing the first line of each stanza. . Sergei Rachmaninoff 18731943 composed a choral symphony The Bells Op. 35 based on a Russian adaptation of the poem by Konstantin Balmont. The symphony follows classical sonata form: first movement slow movement scherzo and finale thus honoring the poem's four sections. The Easton Press unknown

Though ostensibly a guide to psychic self-healing including the removal of "nonphysical entities" through the application of what Poe refers to as "Dynamic Keys" a good portion of the book in fact consists of testimonials regarding her own abilities as a healer the rest being a perhaps deliberately dizzying amalgam of freewheeling astral quackery.
