1941rif. 011305London: Collins 1941 Very scarce early signed Ngaio Marsh SIGNED TO TITLE PAGE by author Best wishes from Ngaio in early hand probably soon after publication now that the good part is over with the bad news as to the condition! the orange cloth has at some point been damp and has bled a lot of dye onto the reverse of the dust jacket and the endpapers the boards are faded and with some old dried out dark mildew spots the paste downs and free endpapers have some orange or pink offset staining the rest of the book however is free of staining and with just some mild foxing a rebind in the same boards after treatment and redying with new endpapers will clean this up the dust jacket is unclipped but has large chipped loss at spine tail as well as chipping to the head and corners the lower fore edge fold is almost entirely split and the lower white panel is stained orangey red the dust jacket front panel is still near complete and reasonably tidy. Signed by Author. First Edition. Cloth. Good/Good. 12mo - over 6 - 7 tall. Collins hardcover
1939rif. 355490717232London: Collins Crime Club 1939. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. Publisher's orange boards with black spine lettering. Slight pushing at the spine tips and lightly foxed to the page block edges otherwise a nice VG copy in a rubbed nicked lightly chipped D/W with splits to the edges of both the front and rear flaps. The D/W is soiled to the back panel and has occasional rather un-necessary transparent tape reinforcement to the verso applied by a former owner. There are no major areas of loss to the D/W apart from a Missing "E" from "OVERTURE" at the head of the spine. Laid in is a 17 line TLS on the late Dame Ngaio Marsh's letter head and dated 26th January 1982 addressed to a correspondent Francis Smith. A chatty letter but with an interesting comment about her first book A Man Lay Dead published in 1934. Ngaio Marsh comments: "Quite a good plot but inefficiently written. Scarce. Scans invited. Collins Crime Club hardcover
1942rif. 355490716973London: Collins Crime Club 1942. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. Publisher's orange cloth with black spine lettering. Loosely inserted is a typed letter signed dated 29th August 1960 from the Author addressed to a Miss R Hellman who it appears was compiling a book of recipes regarding a recipe for steak en casserole together with the typed recipe signed. Scarce with these attributes . Very slight pushing at the head and tail of the spine otherwise a near fine copy in a fine D/W with minuscule fraying at the base of the spine. A lovely collector's-condition copy in the Stead-designed D/W. A much nicer copy than normally seen. Scans invited. Collins Crime Club hardcover
