1953réf. 205The Heritage Press edition of Moriae Encomium or The Praise of Folly by Desiderius Erasmus is a distinguished mid-20th-century reprint of the classic 1509 Latin satire. This exclusive edition is highly regarded for its production quality and specific artistic contributions. Originally written in Latin in 1509 as a satirical attack on the superstitions of the era and the practices of the Western Church the work was dedicated to Sir Thomas More a pun on the title Moriae Encomium. While the Heritage Press initially planned to release this exclusive edition around 1941 with illustrations by Lynd Ward World War II intervened. Consequently the edition was delayed and finally published in 1953. It features a new set of illustrations specifically commissioned for this release. This copy is in excellent condition preserved in its original glassine paper inside its slipcase. The book includes a copy of "The Heritage Club Sandglass" publication which was issued monthly to the members of The Heritage Club. This issue is Number x:17 - see photos. Heritage hardcover
