rif. 46183Hersham: Privately published 2006. This book I believe will become a classic for the study of Freemasonry not only for the data and conclusions it provides but also for its methodology which might usefully be emulated by anyone wishing to seek out long hidden history previously dismissed as archaic legend. In addition and importantly it reveals that we underestimate the intelligence of our predecessors at our peril; sometimes we have to admit they did know what they were talking about however obtuse their language may have become to the modern ear." 1989DISPONIBILITÀ GARANTITA AL 99%; SPEDIZIONE ENTRO 12 ORE DALL'ORDINE. FONDO DI MAGAZZINO PARI AL NUOVO. LIEVISSIMI SEGNI DEL TEMPO. PRIMA RARA EDIZIONE ILLUSTRATA. Chinese painting might be called philosophy in action, for it is one of the highest expressions of Chinese spirituality. Both a medium for contemplation leading to self-transcendence and a microcosm embodying universal principles and primal forces, it is a means for making manifest the Chinese worldview. At the heart of this worldview is the notion of emptiness, the dynamic principle of transformation. Only through emptiness can things attain their full measure and human beings approach the universe at the level of totality. Focusing on the principle of emptiness, Francois Cheng uses semiotic analysis and textual explication to reveal the key themes and structures of Chinese aesthetics in the practice of pictorial art. Among the many Chinese writers, poets, and artists whose writings are quoted, he gives special emphasis to a great Ch'ing dynasty theoretician and painter, Shih-t'ao. Twenty-seven reproductions of the words of Shih-t'ao and other masters illustrate the interpretive commentary. François Cheng, 1929, Nanchang (Jiangxi). È uno scrittore, poeta e calligrafo cinese naturalizzato francese. Successivamente è passato a scrivere romanzi. 1920Chipping and small tears to head of spine. Darkening to boards. Gift inscription to inner cover "CGB [Cedric Boulter] from JLC". ; Includes 16 plates. A careful and detailed study of the beauty and grace of ancient Greek vases. ; 161 pages; 1920. When the discovery was made that the design forms of the Greek vase were strictly dynamic and it became apparent that an analysis of a sufficient number of vase examples would be equivalent to the recovery of the technical methods of Greek designers of the classic age, William Sergeant Kendall, Dean of the Yale School of the Fine Arts, immediately recognized its importance and offered his personal service and that of the University to help in the arduous task of gathering reliable material for a volume. Handsomely illustrated.
