Simone Weil (1909-1943) ha manifestato, nell'arco di tutta la sua breve esistenza, una responsabilità insieme intellettuale, morale e politica, che conferisce alla sua opera una coerenza che non smette di interrogarci: l'impegno politico, l'insegnamento, il lavoro in fabbrica, la partecipazione alla guerra civile in Spagna e infine la ricerca ossessiva di un coinvolgimento diretto nella lotta di resistenza, tutto è vissuto con il desiderio di attraversare con la mente e il corpo i drammi e i problemi del suo tempo. Ella ha vissuto con straordinaria intelligenza quella volontà di comprendere la natura reale dei problemi per cercare un principio, una sorgente diversa dalla forza che in qualche modo ne limiti l'eccesso e che va costantemente alimentata e costruita dentro di sé come un'architettura: «Il fine della vita umana è costruire un'architettura nell'anima». Figlia del suo tempo, ne ha attraversato con la mente e il corpo i problemi e i drammi, sollevando questioni che sono ancora le nostre: prima fra tutte, quella dello "sradicamento", ossia la dismisura e lo squilibrio provocati dall'egemonia della forza che spalanca l'abisso del malheur, della sventura che può ridurre l'uomo a cosa. Le domande poste da Simone Weil continuano a risuonare in noi, nella convinzione che solo da un rinnovamento radicale del pensiero e del pensare può nascere un nuovo "equilibrio" tra l'uomo e le cose, o meglio, tra l'uomo, il cosmo e il divino.
