1914rif. 016632Paris: E. Baudelot 1914. Print. Very Good. Hardcover. Folio. No date c. 1914 7 full-page lithographs by Robida each with tissue guard and 2 leaves 4 pages of text and each housed in a coloured printed card folder. All housed within a portfolio with cloth spine and corners and front board printed in black original ties present. A little general wear and rubbing to the portfolio which is slightly marked otherwise contents and plates in excellent clean condition. The complete series is of 8 lithographs but this portfolio only includes 7 which are Reims Louvain Senlis Malines Arras Termonde and Ypres all cities in France and Belgium destroyed by the Germans in World War I. Each of the fascicles was originally sold separately but it seems that they were also sold later together as a set in this portfolio. A very good colllection. E. Baudelot Hardcover

Slight edgewear hinges a trifle weak traces of bookplate removal on front endpapers of both volumes but a fine example with the covers clean and bright. First Robida Edition. Non presente la carta geografica ripiegata segnalata in altre edizioni ma in questa non prevista stando ad ICCU. Fantasioso romanzo scritto e illustrato da Albert Robida visionario nelle sue anticipazioni del futuro come in questa rocambolesca narrazione d’avventura affine a quelle del celebre connazionale Jules Verne omaggiato fin dal titolo. L’edizione originale francese apparve nel 1879 in cinque parti Le Roi des singes Le Tour du monde en plus de 80 jours Les Quatre Reines À la recherche de l’éléphant blanc S. Exc. M. le Gouverneur du Pole Nord raccolte in volume unico nel 1882; la prima edizione italiana per Sonzogno nel 1884 fu come le successive dell'opera completa.
