Inscribed by author back side of front cover. As an aside this cataloguer has made numerous sojourns through the old mill town of Wendling Oregon. Haunting indeed to know that so many families lived and worked and played there -- mill and housing and church and store and post office. Now as of the 1930's all gone overgrown. Even the concrete bases which housed the giant saws are still there nestled amongst the oaks and firs. Written by 3rd generation Oregonian just outside of Eugene. The author begins with the Mohawk River Watershed and early Mohawk history. Following chapters cover the lumber industry in the Valley ; falling and bucking ; rollways and parbuckle ; log drives. The Mohawk Valley Post Offices Isabel-Marcola First schools in the Valley and Cemeteries are covered. The author takes you from around the turn of the century to after the turn of the century in this fascinating look at the Oregon wilderness the vibrant logging community that flourished from the late 19th century until the mid-1930s which is today a haunted ghost-town. 1996ref. 2m2571Clearwater: Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners in cooperation with Pinellas County Department of Public Affairs 1996. 1st edition. Octavo stiff pictorial wrappers spiral bound 114 pp. Photos portraits. Fine. From AUthor’s Note: These are not intended to be nor are they the definitive biographies of the Pinellas County Commissioners from 1912 to the present. The effort is to give in the lives of the Commissioners a glimpse of the history of Pinellas County as it unfolded through their lives and their efforts to bring about the growth and development of the County and its government. You may notice while reading this booklet that dates are missing for the lifespans of some of the Commissioners. Many people researched this information through newspaper clippings cemetery roles anecdotal recollections of relatives and other sources. This is as complete a record as was possible to set forth. For similar reasons not all Commissioners will have a photograph to accompany their biographies. Also as the Commissioners’ terms in office are recorded you may notice a change in the mid-1960s when terms went from being listed in odd-numbered years to even-numbered years according to state documents.
