FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- 144 pages; 150 illustrations in color. -- with a bonus offer--; Since 1960 drawing has been the sole form of expression of British Columbia-based artist Ann Kipling. This publication chronicles one calendar year 2009 during which time Kipling produced 141 drawings each magnificently illustrated here. While Kipling s work is centered upon the outdoors landscape is not a word that can be easily used to describe her work. Neither can it be viewed through the lens of the formal nationalist tradition that the landscape genre carries in Canada. Robin Laurence examines Kipling s attentiveness to the environment that recalls Chinese landscape painting and calligraphy. Darrin Martens pursues the philosophical investigation with a call to look beyond representation to a process that embodies the very act of creation. Rosemarie Tovell explores Kipling's practice as a draftsperson situating it within the historical and aesthetic context of an often misunderstood discipline. . 2011. 0980996287 . Gallery hardcover

1901réf. 135312London: Macmillan and Co. Limited 1901. First English edition of what many consider Kipling’s masterpiece. Octavo original cloth. Illustrated with photographs of clay reliefs by John Lockwood Kipling including tissue-guarded frontispiece two pages of advertisements at rear. In fine condition. Housed in a custom half morocco and chemise clamshell box. An exceptional example. Kim unfolds against the backdrop of The Great Game the political conflict between Russia and Britain in Central Asia. The novel made the term "Great Game" popular and introduced the theme of great power rivalry and intrigue. It is set after the Second Afghan War which ended in 1881 but before the Third probably in the period 1893 to 1898. The novel is notable for its detailed portrait of the people culture and varied religions of India. "The book presents a vivid picture of India its teeming populations religions and superstitions and the life of the bazaars and the road." Considered by many to be Kipling's masterpiece opinion appears varied about its consideration as children's literature or not. Roger Sale in his history of children's literature concludes "Kim is the apotheosis of the Victorian cult of childhood but it shines now as bright as ever long after the Empire's collapse." It was the basis for the 1950 film starring Errol Flynn Dean Stockwell and Paul Lukas. Named by Modern Library as one of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. In 2003 the book was listed on the BBC's The Big Read poll of the UK's "best-loved novel." Macmillan and Co., Limited hardcover

Rare in this near-fine condition First American edition first printing of the first trade book edition of Kipling's novel. The true first edition comprises a copyright edition which was filed for copyright in the US on 7 November 1890 and the serial rights were acquired by Lippincott's Monthly Magazine for its January 1891 issue appearing in Australia the UK and the US. On 12 November 1890 a copy of the present book the first US edition was deposited in the Library of Congress. It was not sold however until Lippincott's had been published. This edition prints the 12-chapter version with the "happy ending". Although Kipling originally wrote the novel with a "sad ending" the "happy ending" was the first to appear in print.
