Best.-Nr. 021177[Napoléon] Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), écrivain anglais, prix Nobel de littérature 1907. L.S., Burwash, 6 juin 1927, 1p in-4. A l'historien Joseph Coudurier de Chassaigne (1878-1961), en anglais, pour le remercier de l'envoi de son livre. On notera cette belle phrase sur Napoléon dont l'importance est similaire à la chute d'un astéroïde sur la terre. « Dear Coudurier, That superb History of Napoleon (for it is little less than that) came in a couple of days ago, and your letter later. I make haste to send you my most grateful thanks before I send it off to be bound as a treasure.. My compliments on the last clause of your Preface. Yes, his impact on the world (to extend your comparison) was like that of an asteroid from out of space - making a crater, it is true, but affecting atmosphere and events in every quarter of the world. With renewed and most grateful thanks, Very sincerely yours, Rudyard Kipling ». [520]
