2023ref. SBBI-mon0000151300Sky Publishing 2023. hardcover. Very Good. Most of our very good books have only minor imperfections such as shelf wear consistent with a new book that's sat on a bookshop shelf for a year or two. Occasionally we may miss other minor imperfections as we have to grade books at speed. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order at least not without checking with us first although we don't always have time to check. It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. ref. 74728London: Macmillan and Co. 1908. Children's classic FIRST DETMOLD COLOUR ILLUSTRATED EDITION first impression. Octavo 22 x 14.5 cm; pp.xii 314 2 advertisements. With 16 full-page colour plates. Publisher's red cloth pictorially blocked in gilt top edge gilt. Contents clean a little toning to edges and endpapers binding carefully handled small pull at crown. Charles Maurice Detmold and Edward Julius Detmold were English graphic artists twins born on 21 November 1883. Due to the illness of their father they grew up in the care of their uncle Dr E B Shuldham who had acquired a notable collection of Japanese woodprints of plants and animals. This encouraged the twins to commence drawing animals and plants at a very early age and resulted in a debut aged 13 at the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters with nature studies in the Japanese style. The Detmolds subsequently learned techniques of watercolour etching and of colour printing with copper plates. London: Macmillan and Co., 1908 unknown

The Second Jungle Book published in 1895 contains stories linked by poems. The stories tell mostly of Mowgli an Indian boy raised by wolves from infancy learning self-sufficiency and wisdom from the jungle animals. The book describes the social life of the wolf pack and more fancifully the justice and natural order of life in the jungle. Among the animals whose tales are related in the work are Akela the wolf; Baloo the brown bear; Shere Khan the boastful Bengal tiger who is Mowgli's enemy; Kaa the python; Bagheera the panther; and Rikki-tikki-tavi the mongoose.'
