réf. a9255112mo . hardcover. Prelined pages. 71 pages of ink manuscript easy to read. Author is taking the Train Blaxer Train on an American Express Banner Tour . She begins in New York City and crosses US through Pennsylvania Kansas Grand Canyon Los Angeles San Francisco Vancouver Chicago etc. She is travelling with Ethel Klinkenberg "Klink" and we are told they are bunking in same cabin - at end of diary is a mss list of the cabins and names of occupants and Ethel Klinkenberg is listed as bunking with Mary Joyce so we surmise Joyce is the diarist. Also she records cashing her left-over travel checks in October of 1947 in several venues all in Red Bank New Jersey and genealogical records indicate a Mary Joyce born c. 1916 lived there in the 1940s. Diary apparently a gift from her grandmother has a long foldout color map of the US on which author traced her travel route with an ink line. Full of detail on specific foods eaten cost of all her expenses and purchases sights seen activities onboard the train with the other tour members. Sept 18 more than once she gives the year as 1946 by mistake instead of 1947 : "At Needles folks got off-lots of excitement - someone tried to get on train and man what a gun persuaded him he wasn't on right train - played Bingo . Ethel won cigarette case very pretty with map of US on front" etc. Chatty amusing. . hardcover

Despite these challenges the Lindberghs rose to become one of the most famous couples in America thanks largely to the success of their pioneering air travel.
