SIGNED LETTERED EDITION. 6 7-115pp. colophon. 8vo hand bound in brown Belgian linen cloth brown morroco spine label stamped in gilt. FINE in FINE publisher's slipcase with acetate mylar jacket. Letter A of an edition limited to 330 with 300 numbered copies 26 lettered and four with a named recipient. As with all S&O editions the slipcases were handmade by Ralph Sylvester and on this edition only the lettered and named copies received one. Letterpress printed in Fournier on Curtis Rag paper by LA printer Lillian Marks. The second publication and first original work by Sylvester and Orphanos. Though still relatively unknown as publishers at the time S&O were more widely known as booksellers issuing limited edition catalogs since 1973. Oates was a customer of theirs and submitted her manuscipt to them after being impressed by the production of their first book Isherwood's Christopher and His Kind. After receiving her copy she wrote to them 'I've thought now and then sometimes almost with a sense of regret that Sentimental Education is the best piece of sustained writing I've done or will ever do.
