Annie Kilburn-Kilmer 1849–1932 was not only the composer of this piece but the mother of the author Joyce Kilmer 1886-1918 full name Alfred Joyce Kilmer an American Catholic poet journalist and lecturer who died in the First World War. The headline of her New York Times obituary identifies her as "Mother of War Poet" later describing her creative work "A talented musician Mrs. Kilmer set several of her son's poems to music. She also is the author of several books including Memories of My Son Joyce Kilmer Whimsies and More Whimsies."
