1977Best.-Nr. 1107Santa Barbara CA: Black Sparrow Press. 1977. Softcover. Fine. The clamshell box has the slightest rubbing at the extremities.; Twelve poems by Joyce Carol Oates some being reprinted from periodicals: A Song on Coming Back from Nothing Last Harvest Ice Age Season of Peril Offspring Skyscape Earth-Rituals Footprints The Buried Self Fever Dream on the Eve of Illness Small Miracles and Rising to Trees. The book design by Barbara Martin. Three folded sheets unopened at the head fore edge trimmed and comprising the pages from Title through the last poem. These are laid loose in a light olive-green wrap of stiff mould made paper. These sheets are genuine printed for Black Sparrow by Mackintosh & Young on cream-colored watermarked laid paper. Paginated 22 2 with 24 pages. These comprise a spurious "proof" copy never produced or issued by Black Sparrow Press. "A small unknown quantity of folded unbound sheets were removed from the printer's trash bin without the knowledge of the publisher and distributed as proof copies." Morrow & Cooney 284. Both ink stamps are spurious and not applied by the printer Mackintosh & Young or Black Sparrow Press.
