"Richard Austin Freeman 11 April 1862 28 September 1943 was a British writer of detective stories mostly featuring the medico-legal forensic investigator Dr. Thorndyke. He claimed to have invented the inverted detective story a crime fiction in which the commission of the crime is described at the beginning usually including the identity of the perpetrator with the story then describing the detective's attempt to solve the mystery. Freeman used some of his early experiences as a colonial surgeon in his novels. Many of the Dr. Thorndyke stories involve genuine but often quite arcane points of scientific knowledge from areas such as tropical medicine metallurgy and toxicology." from Wikipedia . After the war he became the science editor for the Pfizer pharmaceutical company. His writing career progressed until eventually he gave up his job to become a full-time writer. He is credited with coining the term gas giant in the story "Solar Plexus" as it appeared in the anthology Beyond Human Ken edited by Judith Merril. The story was originally published in 1941 but that version did not contain the term; Blish is thought to have added it in a rewrite done for the anthology which was first published in 1952. From 1962 to 1968 Blish worked for the Tobacco Institute. Then in 1968 Blish left his native United States and moved to Henley-on-Thames England. From 1967 to 1977 Blish worked on a series of books for the Star Trek franchise. He died before the series was completed and the final volume Star Trek 12 was co-credited to his wife." ; Signed by Author . Dodd, Mead & Company hardcover

Working within the orthodoxy of the church they turned to the Bible to argue for their rights - thus holding men accountable to the same text that authenticated their arguments for racial equality. In drawing upon the bible - the most respected source within their community - they found scriptural precedents for expanding women's rights. Black women expressed discontent with popular conceptions regarding "woman's place" in the church and society at large."
