Design for Murder is his third novel that centres on a group of sophisticated people gathered for a weekend in Connecticut. In the original unclipped dust wrapper. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart with very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Previous owner inscription to the front pastedown and a stamp to the front free endpaper. Front hinge is starting and remains generally firm. Internally firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Wilde explains that he had previously written regarding the case but 'by some accident the Letter has been mislaid I believe among my mass of papers and I therefore fear it may not have reached you as I cannot learn who among the Servants dispatched it'. In the lost letter he stated that the wishes of his correspondent 'had been anticipated by the case respecting the Lithgon Family having been answered and also stating that the only point submitted to me regarded the legal presumption of Survivorship among several persons the respective times of whose Deaths could not be ascertained'.
