Coloured illustration to title page and 19 pages of jolly coloured illustrations unsigned for 9 stories about naughty children Dutch text. 2 are from Struwwelpeter: De Geschiedenis van Hans-Kijk-in-de-Lucht Johnny Head-in-Air and De Geschiedenis van den vliegenden Robert Flying Robert. Recased with new endpapers strengthening to some inner margins board corners slightly worn covers lightly stained at edges with a little light soiling and spotting. Margins slightly thumbed and faintly soiled small crease to 2 page corners inner margin of title page slightly grazed with slight loss to illustration 2 letters very slightly affected another graze 20 x 10 mm 1" x ½" to lower edge affecting background only see images slight graze to margin of last page just affecting edge of illustration background only some scratches made by child to 'lugen Frans' not spoiling illustration. A good plus copy. See Ruhle 262c; Baumgartner 2I100 showing a copy without the date 1899. At foot of cover and title page is printed: "De eerste Nederlandsche uitgaaf van 1849 nauwkeurig gevolgd" which refers to the first Dutch edition of Der Struwwelpeter. FIRST EDITION. A treatise on the electrographic examination of the heart especially regarding heart irregularities. Hoffman is included in George Edward Burch and Nicholas Paul De Pasquale A History of Electrocardiography 1964 and "Great Men of Electrocardiography" Chapter III pp. 82-3 "he made many early contributions to the understanding of clinical electrocardiology.". "August Hoffmann was born in MUnster on 2 June 1862. In 1891 he set up his medical practice in DUsseldorf as specialist for internal medicine and neurology. There in 1907 he became first professor in ordinary for internal medicine when the Academy for Practical Medicine was founded. Up to 1927 he was head of the medical clinic. On 17 February 1929 he died in DUsseldorf. At first Hoffmann used the X-rays which were discovered in 1895 for the heart diagnostics above all for the determination of the size of the heart. A general notoriety he obtained by publication of the monography about the paroxysmal tachycardia type Bouveret-Hoffmann in 1900. After the preliminary works of Einthoven he belonged to the first German clinicians who dealt with electrocardiography above all problems of arrhythmia.
