"Nach Max Neuburger 1926 läßt Hoffmann keine Heilung anstrebende Heilkraft zu sie wirkt nur per accidens aus der Mechanik des Körpers heraus: "Im Gegensatz zu Boerhaave wagte es Friedrich Hoffmann mit voller Zuversicht die Natur als einen 'Mechanismus" im Sinne Boyle's hinzustellen als eine Summe kunstvoll verbundener Bewegungen als ein Kräftespiel das automatisch zustandekommt. Ihm galt der Körper als eine Maschine von höchster Vollendung; der Blut- und Säfteumlauf unterhalten durch rhythmische Kontraktion und Dilatation der mit einem Tonus' versehenen Festteile war ihm die wesentlichste Manifestation des Lebens". In diesem Zusammenhang taucht erstmals der Gedanke eines Einflusses von Robert Boyle auf mit dem Hoffmann 1684 in England Bekanntschaft geschlossen hatte. Hoffmann lehnte mit Boyle 1661 und anderen die formae substantiates der Scholastiker die archaei des van Helmont und die 3 Prinzipien der Iatrochemiker ab. Zu Hoffmanns Verurteilung der Archaei meint W. Pagel 194428 richtig: "The latter degraded the Archei to a purely physical Ether' and nervous fluid. He did not pay much attention to the soul.
