Erste Ausgabe! Erich Hoffmann 1868-1959 studierte an der Kaiser Wilhelm-Akademie in Berlin wurde hier 1892 promoviert und trat in den militärärztlichen Dienst ein. Er wandte sich dann der Dermatologie zu und habilitierte sich 1904 in Berlin 1905 Tit.Prof. 1908 a.o.Prof. 1909-1910 war er in Bonn Direktor der Univ.-Hautklinik seit 1917 Ordinarius. Sein Name wurde besonders bekannt daß ihm 1905 mit SCHAUDINN gelang die Spirochaeta pallida als Erreger der Syphilis nachzuweisen. -cf. In 1905 Schaudinn and Hoffmann ended the long search for the organism of syphilis by the discovery of the Spirochaeta palladia. The discovery was the result of the appointment by the German Academy of Science of a committee consisting of Fritz Schaudinn a protozoologist and Erik Hoffmann a dermatologist both young men of established ability in their fields. The story of the search and its final discovery is one of the most interesting stories in microbiology and is beautifully told by Metchnikoff. Not in Waller Osler Cushing Reynolds etc. Rare ! unknown
