An excellent set. A complete set of the most significant biography of the writer Samuel Johnson 1709-1784 by the Scottish biographer James Boswell 1740-1795. Boswell was a long-standing and close friend of Johnson and his biography much of which is drawn from first-hand conversations and experiences recorded in his own diary focuses more on painting an intimate portrait of a character than on compiling a collection of dates and facts. It has often been described as the best biography written in the English language and is sometimes considered to have established the form of the modern biography.
