The collection of Boswell's papers long thought destroyed were rediscovered in various homes in Ireland and Scotland and were reluctantly sold to Isham in 1928 by Lord Talbot his wife one of Boswell's great-granddaughters. After his great acquisition Isham negotiated a deal with William Edwin Rudge to print the collection as a set for subscribers. Bruce Rogers was assigned the task of designing the format and produced a set of volumes that are "magnificent examples of the arts of the printed book. They are surely the most impressive single monument of the Rudge/Rogers association." Blume. unknown
