ref. 017126Paris France: No publisher 1978. Book. Near fine condition. Unbound. Signed by Authors. First Edition. Quarto 4to. A hand letterpress book with original text and a facsimile-style printing of the text of the 5th Sonnet of an early French edition of Petrarch. The third line of this sonnet reads "Le laurier digne." which has been printed to read "Le LAUrier digne. and has been combined in the same fashion with line 7 "Votre noble REgard." to offer an apparent omage to LAURE. Most pages of text face a color etchings by an artist identified as Signore Fiorini; there are a total of 12 etchings. Each sheet measures 11.5" x 15.5" 29cm x 39cm and is folded in half forming 4 pages. There are nine such sheets 36 pages enclosed in a decorated paper portfolio and protected in a linen-covered clamshell box with "L" printed on the spine. Each etching is protected by glassine. Hand-numbered 12 of 50 copies signed by Simone' Piccone and Fiorini. The colophon reads "Cette edition des vers de PETRARQUE dedies a Laure Bissiere est la seule connue a ce jour. Elle comprend 50 exemplaires imprimes sur Auvergne a la main de Richard de Bas par l'artiste lue-meme; soit un exemplaire numerote 1 a Laure quatre exemplaires numerotes HC II a HC V; quarante cinq exemplaires numerotes 6 a 50." The condition is excellent with a few sheets with tiny spots of foxing probably inherent in the manufacture by Richard de Bas. The title page contains the phrase "Sic Itur Ad Astra Hic Et Nunc Plus Ultra." Another sheet reads "Acheve d'imprimer a Paris le 15 Mai 1978." Very little about this unusual publication can be found by research except that Laure Bissiere may be also knows as Madame Laure Loutre Bissiere. The artwork of Roger Bissiere 1886-1964 and B. Louttre 1926-2012 sold at Post War and Contemporary Art auctions has been accompanied by a certificate from Madame Laure Loutre Bissiere. An interesting and beautifully made book. A very good or better book without inscriptions. In a very good unclipped wrapper which has some light archival internal repairs including to a minute hole on the spine and a thin sliver of loss to the spine head and a little light chipping to the foot of the spine and to the corners. Simone de Beauvoir a prominent existentialist philosopher and feminist wrote "She Came to Stay" 1943 exploring complex human relationships. Set in Nazi-occupied Paris it delves into the entangled lives of existentialist intellectuals including herself and Jean-Paul Sartre as they navigate love jealousy and existential crises. Through the character of Françoise Beauvoir examines themes of freedom authenticity and the struggle for individual identity in a world fraught with moral ambiguity. Sebbene priva di data l’opera può essere ricondotta a prima del 1568, in quanto compare occasionalmente in alcune copie della raccolta di carte di piccolo formato della famiglia Bertelli, il Civitatum aliquot insignorum et locorum magis monitorum exacta delineation cum additione aliquot Insularum principalium. Disegni di alcune più illustri città et fortezze del mondo con aggionta di alcune Isole principali edito da Ferrando Bertelli nel 1568. Ma la carta circolava già prima, come dimostra la sua presenza in alcune raccolte cinquecentesche di grande formato. Dal punto di vista cartografico la carta deriva dall’opera di Giacomo Gastaldi del 1560.La carta conosce una seconda stesura, anonima, profondamente modificata dalla scomparsa del cartiglio con il titolo. Esaminando bene gli esemplari di secondo stato si intravedon le scritte che compaiono nel primo. Tali prove, più comuni, sono inserite nella ristampa Civitatum aliquot insignorum et locorum curata da Donato Bertelli nel 1574.Stati & edizioni: 1°: come descritto.2°: abraso il cartiglio in basso a sinistra e la nave più grande; sono ancora visibili le tracce delle iscrizioni. Nel posto del cartiglio si legge ora MARE MEDITERRANEO. SECOND STATE, WITHOUT THE IMPRINTMap of Morea from the very rare Civitatum Aliquot insignorum et locorum… of Bertelli. The book, which describes the main cities, isles and remarkable places of the world, followed after only one year the analogous work published by Forlani (1567). It bears also the plates engraved by Forlani himself, by Zenoi and Bertelli. The first state of the map is with a cartouche ta the lower left, with the title "OREA peninsula anticame[n]nte detta poloponesso, apia, e pelagia. oratio berteli.". This second state have the cartouche (and some of the ships) erased where is now the inscription "Mare Mediterraneo".Copper engraving, with margins, in excellent condition.
