2016Morta all'età di 34 anni nel 1943, Simone Weil ha dimostrato, nella sua vita e nel suo pensiero, una tale responsabilità al tempo stesso intellettuale, morale e politica, da conferire alla sua opera un'esigenza di coerenza, pur senza diventare mai una specie di sistema. Da un punto di vista filosofico, è difficile classificare la sua dottrina. Da una parte, afferma che ai suoi occhi "nulla supera Platone". Il posto riservato a Platone e alla Grecia nell'interpretazione del suo pensiero, non deve tuttavia far dimenticare ciò che ella scriveva, sin dal 1934, nelle "Riflessioni sulle cause della libertà e dell'oppressione": "La nozione di lavoro considerato come un valore umano è di sicuro l'unica conquista spirituale che il pensiero umano abbia fatto dopo il miracolo greco; era forse questa l'unica lacuna di quell'ideale di vita umana che la Grecia aveva elaborato". Weil ritorna sull'argomento nel 1943, affermando che "la nostra epoca ha come propria missione, per vocazione, la costituzione di una civilizzazione fondata sulla spiritualità del lavoro", dato che i pensieri relativi al "presentimento di questa vocazione" erano i soli "che non siano stati presi in prestito dai greci".
