U ovoj knjizi Neruda jos jednom pokazuje da je pjesnik savjest koja ne miruje do samog kraja a stilska napetost Nerudine proze podjednako je zanimljiva i sugestivna kao i u svim ostalim delima iz njegovog bogatog stvaralackog opusa. Neruda je svoje memoare pisao gotovo do poslednjeg dana svog zivota.
