Celebrated photographic work showcasing the Chilean port city through the eye of reclusive Magnum photographer Sergio Larrain. Created during the late 1950s while Larrain travelled with poet Pablo Neruda the images capture the labyrinthine streets steep hills and vibrant life of Valparaíso with an inventive shadow-rich style that influenced generations of photographers. Though shot decades earlier the photographs were not published until the 1990s and this fantastic edition brings together Larrain’s striking black-and-white vision with texts by Neruda and correspondence with Henri Cartier-Bresson. The book is both a visual portrait of a singular city and a testament to an artist who retreated from public life yet produced work of enduring power and poetry.; 6.5 X 0.9 X 9.25 inches; 207 pages . 2017. 1597114138 .
