Unpaginated oblong folio in 11x14 inch pebbled dark cloth boards titled gilt texts printed alternately in blue and sepia inks with b&w photoillustrations an elaborate production. Most photos are of landscapes urban profiles and railway land and appear to have been reproduced from the negative: these are clear and detailed. Both hinges a little limp but holding well supplied with cloth strengtheners in the bindery a modern cover label was removed by us leaving a very faint trace. The entry "New Salem" was neatly annotated in lavender ink by a local who supplied genealogy there is a 1915 ownership on front pastedown. In general the text pages are fragile/brittle such that any less than careful handling would lead to tearing so for instance title and half-title leaves bear marginal tears as do a couple of pages that our photographer opened less than carefully.
