1907Best.-Nr. 86971Rock Island IL: Augustana Book Concerns 1907. Very Good condition. Owner inscription. # Your book: Minnes-Skrift 1882-1907 ## A piece of San Francisco's Swedish-American history Published in 1907 · Rock Island Illinois Based on the title and pages this is an illustrated commemorative album published for the 25th anniversary of the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Ebenezer Congregation in San Francisco California. It is a historical church publication documenting a Swedish immigrant congregation and its community during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. ## 1. What the title means The title Minnes-Skrift also printed as Minnesskrift is Swedish for a memorial or commemorative publication. The cover gives the years 1882-1907 marking the congregation's 25-year anniversary. The title page provides further details: - Organization: Svenska Evangeliska Lutherska Ebenezer-Församlingen - the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Ebenezer Congregation. - Location: San Francisco California. - Occasion: The congregation's 25th anniversary celebrations August 8-12 1907. - Publisher/printer: Augustana Book Concern Rock Island Illinois. - Format: An illustrated commemorative album likely containing photographs and a written record of the congregation's history. The photograph on the left-hand page is captioned in Swedish as the new Ebenezer Church at 15th and Dolores Streets San Francisco. The caption also says its cornerstone was laid in February 1904 and it was inaugurated in February 1906. ## 2. Why this book is historically important The book is especially interesting because it was published just one year after the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire. Historical records confirm that the Ebenezer church at 15th and Dolores Streets survived the disaster along with the adjacent parsonage. The congregation's building became part of the neighborhood's recovery and history. Western Neighborhoods Project 1 The album may contain valuable primary-source material including: - Photographs of early Swedish American church members and leaders. - Names of pastors congregation officers and founding families. - Records of church organizations and anniversary celebrations. - Images of the church building and its furnishings. - Information useful to genealogists researching Swedish ancestors in California. These are potential contents based on the book's format; the two photographs alone do not establish exactly which sections it contains. Estimated value category not a verified appraisal This is a relatively specialized item: a Swedish-language religious and local-history publication from 1907. Augustana Book Concerns unknown
