réf. 28207Chicago : s.n. circa 1965. Octavo illustrated self-wrappers pp. 14 illustrated in black and white light central crease. A rare early American vinyl and latex catalogue with a variety of products designed for fetishist sexplay. Includes latex bikinis bloomers custom made ladies dress suits exercise suits panties gloves aprons raincapes slacks bras boots and other latexwear. The publisher is anonymous and the catalogue was probably distributed through sex shops and similar however the mention of sales tax in Illinois suggests the publisher was located in that state probably Chicago. Discovering diversity during the sexual revolution. The origins of Latex fetishism or rubber fetishism are traditionally attributed to the invention of the Mackintosh raincoat in 1824. Originally a purely functional piece of waterproof outerwear the raincoat like all garments evolves as a fashion object and the unique materials and sensual nature of the latex produce an erotic effect on fetishists for a variety of reasons not all of which entirely understood. Latex fetishism in the modern era can see its emergence in the invention of the catsuit in the 1950s by British designer John Sutcliffe transitioning to the mainstream in the 1960s with The Avengers with the show's sexy heroine Emma Peel clad in latex. Latexwear is often subversive and makes reference to marginalised social groups such as bikers prostitutes and slaves and appropriates motifs of power from the military and dungeon master to challenge traditional notions of authority and control. Latex was explored by Vivienne Westwood and other designers in the early 1970s celebrated by the punk movement in the late 70s club kids in the 80s and continues to be a material widely enjoyed by both mainstream fashionistas and fetishists alike. This rare catalogue from the time of the sexual revolution celebrates the acceptance of sexual diversity and individual liberation. Unlike contemporary latex fetish catalogues like AtomAge which featured the more extreme forms of kink on their covers gas masks etc. this anonymous catalogue promotes the use wearing of latex as part of one's daily routine. réf. 1067France c.1890. The scenes are: an outdoor Punch and Judy show probably in the Tuileries gardens; a picnic for children in the countryside; a village festival with children playing musical instruments in a procession; a fair with merry-go-round and other attractions. réf. 34377Watercolour on laid paper with watermark of a horse and rider and pair of scales 200 x 148 mm sheet; captioned in ink 'Nouvelle Hollande' at bottom left and with a foliation number '184' in the same hand at bottom right; the sheet is unmounted verso blank and the drawing has survived in fine condition - virtually in its original state; removal from a sketchbook at some point is confirmed by the slightly roughened top edge of the sheet which also shows evidence of the original stitch holes. This watercolour sketch was made by an anonymous French artist probably around 1835. It appears to be a conflation of several images by the voyage artist Louis Auguste de Sainson 1800-1887 which depict Indigenous people at King George's Sound Albany Western Australia. Sainson made his sketches in situ in 1826 during the Astrolabe's scientific round-the-world voyage under the command of Dumont d'Urville. His drawings were reproduced as engraved plates in Voyage de la Corvette l'Astrolabe Paris: J. Tastu1830-35 and elsewhere. The male figure wears a short animal-skin cloak characteristic of the type worn by the men in Sainson's King George's Sound drawings. His arms are outstretched with the wrists limp and hands downturned a highly distinctive gesture that appears to have been copied directly from the identical body language of several of the subjects in Sainson's famous drawing titled Port du Roi Georges. Nouvelle-Hollande. Un naturel montre à ses Compagnons les Cadeaux qu'il a reçus à bord de L'Astrolabe which depicts an Indigenous man showing his companions the trinkets given to him by the Astrolabe's crew. Furthermore the way in which the man is shown in full profile with knees slightly bent his straggly beard and hair accentuated is strikingly similar to the manner in which the left-hand figure in Sainson's Nlle. Hollande. Naturels du port du Roi Georges is posed. Finally the native grass tree Xanthorrhoea australis is placed at the bottom right of the image just as it is in Sainson's Vue d'un Étang près la Baie du Roi Georges. unknown

Broadside 210 x 150 mm printed on one side only text set within decorative border surrounding the heading and Psalm LXIX and with a fully contemporary annotation at top left 'P. & O. S. ""Chusan"" 1st arrival at Port Phillip'; in fine condition mounted on card and housed in a modern frame with handwritten note on the reverse: 'John Dowel Whittle 23 years fell overboard from S. S. Chusan first P. & O. steamer into Melbourne on 29th July 1852. He went overboard about 7 miles off Cape Otway about 7.00 am and could not be recovered'; the back is also annotated 'Ex Ingleton Collection'. A rare broadside printed in Melbourne during the first months of the Victorian gold rush. This is the Ingleton copy and is the only surviving example of this broadside we have been able to trace. According to contemporary reports in Melbourne newspapers the unfortunate Whittle was one of the ship's hands on the Chusan and was thrown from the main yard in a storm off Cape Otway. Who knows the young man may well have been contemplating jumping ship in Port Phillip in expectation of making his fortune on the diggings. This broadside is recorded in Ingleton Geoffrey C. William Denny' the spine in compartments with contrasting leather title piece lettered in gilt and with 'The Wm. Denny Library' stamped in gilt at the foot; marbled edges; front pastedown with bookseller's ticket of 'W. Beal Tinsmith and Bookseller Wellesley-street East Auckland'; pastedown and front free-endpaper with ownership inscriptions of 'T. Kane Decr 1870' and 'F. Cherry Newton Auckland 339-1871' pp 192; 192; rear pastedown with Cherry's manuscript date of 5.12.71 and the remnants of the binder's ticket printed in red on white but of which only the following letters can be discerned: 'ART / BOOKBINDER / LEY'; the boards are lightly rubbed and with some minor scuff marks but the gilt is still bright; the binding is firm and the contents clean. The cargo and passenger ship SS William Denny was wrecked off New Zealand's North Cape in March 1857 on a voyage from Auckland to Sydney. This beautiful little volume in the ship's own attractive binding frustratingly we cannot identify the binder from his only partially legible ticket was evidently salvaged from the wreck at the time; whether or not it is a unique survivor is not known. The book was later sold by William Beal Auckland tinsmith ! and bookseller to Mr. T. Kane before passing a year later into the private collection of another Aucklander F. Cherry of Newton as the 339th volume in his library. hardcover
