1825ref. 48222Edinburgh: Waugh and Innes 1825. Edinburgh: Waugh and Innes 1825. "Third Edition with Additions." The "Kent "was a 1350-ton troop ship bound for China with soldiers and civilian families aboard. She caught fire during a storm in the Bay of Biscay. "Apparently 568 out of 637 people were saved." - Huntress 227C. The original narrative was taken from a published letter attributed to Sir Duncan McGregor a major in the regiment aboard the ship. The "Additions" mentioned on the title page constitute a 36-page Appendix which deals with the fate of the 14 men left aboard the burning ship - a graphic account and not a happy one. The account ends ".we can only hope that in such a state of utter despair the sufferings of those wretched beings were not long protracted." Bound in publisher's plain boards with paper spine label. Front hinge weak backstrip cracked and chipped. Text immaculate. 19.5 cm. 113 6 publisher's ads pp. . Waugh and Innes hardcover books
