1850rif. V74676Geneva - Geneve Switzerland: Briquet et Fils printed by Lemercier Paris. 1850 approx. Hardcover. Very Good. Tinted lithographs of Swiss views 20 most around Lake Geneva & Mont Blanc but also Berne Thun Chute du Rhein etc. some with Lithographer named Th. Muller. Oblong quarto 288 x 215mm brown blind-stamped cloth with gilt title & Swiss emblem tips worn/gilt dulled 20 plates mounted at spine only a few blank guards present. Image size 180x118mm with publisher Briquet et Fils and printer's name Lemercier and in one or two cases Th. Muller lithographer credited below is title of view and all surrounded by ruled line about 1cm. from the image. Some edges dusty and a bit tatty but only edges affected. Fine coloured lithographic plates each with beautifully printed sharp detail. This collection appears to be complete - if all images had guard-sheets width of spine could fit more. Lithography well printed by Lemercier an established Parisian printer Briquet who sold these view-books was based in Geneva but later had ties with publishers in other Swiss cities British Museum has almost identical copy with 6 more views ref. 1958-0712-3024-1-26. 1822rif. V74421London: R. Ackermann at the Repository of Arts 1822. Disbound. Fair. Hand-coloured plates 24 by Thomas Rowlandson 1756-1827. Tall octavo disbound with remains of calf spine gilt. Hand-coloured frontis illegible name on back titlepage 254 of 267pp lacking last 7 leaves. Pages 249-256 repeated in pagination but text and register are continuous. Corner losses not touching print to 6 leaves at front and back last leaf present stained and browned on back some corner creases. Here sold for the very fine 24 hand-coloured Plates. The rarest of the Syntax books as it only seems to have had one printing 1822 plus a 1903 copy of the 1822 edition with the plates colour printed. R. Ackermann at the Repository of Arts unknown
1792rif. V74333London: J. Good 159 New Bond Street 1792. Softcover. Good. Copperplates 62 Titlepage vignette with coat of arms of Gloucester and its cathedral in background in total 370 coats of arms engraved by Ames of Bristol. Small folio linen spine with contemporary blue paper wraps. Engraved titlepage 62 plates of coats of arms. Titlepage partly torn across and repaired on back and hinge strengthened else a neat copy with only a little light freckling. There is no text or subscribers list in this version the book was sold both with and without 49 pages of text which listed and briefly described the coats of arms pictured in the plates. The arms of Gloucestershire families are derived from Sir Robert Atkins' History 1712 and a few from Rudder's New History 1779. Printed 6 per page they are alphabetical first from Atkyns up to plate 53 which has only 4 arms ending in "Yate". Then the alphabet begins again with A from Rudder but ends with "Cassey". A further volume was intended but the work was never completed. Generally attributed to Sir George Nayler born at Stroud Garter King of Arms but the Dict. Nat. Biog. xl.130 states that "it was in reality the work of one Ames an engraver at Bristol". J. Good, 159 New Bond Street paperback

Endpapers bit soiled but neat inscription Violet Denford July 21st 1904 - the monthly issues also have her name in pencil.
