1890rif. 51781890. Albumen photograph cabinet card. 105mm by 165mm card. Cabinet card size albumen photograph of the convict ship 'Success'. 'Wishing you a Merry Xmas' printed on right side of the card. 'Convict hulk 'Success'' inscribed in pencil on the reverse. 'Success' was an Australian prison ship built in 1840 at Natmoo Burma for Cockerell & Co. of Calcutta. Between the 1890s and the 1930s she was converted into a floating museum displaying relics of the convict era and purporting to represent the horrors of penal transportation in Great Britain and the United States of America. After extensive world tours she was destroyed in 1946 by fire while berthed in Lake Erie near Cleveland Ohio. Some light foxing. unknown
1924rif. 035808Wiliam Macdonald 1924. Book. Fair. Soft cover. Undated but c1920s. The book has a red cloth covered card cover which is worn & has some corner creases. It is still firmly bound with no loose torn or missing pages. & the pages are clean although there is some creasing. Illustrated with b/w photos town plans & maps - all in good condition except that the fold-out map of Glasgow has a tear but no loss.
