Tall 8vo. 128 pp 24 fine steel engravings of Venice with tissue guards. Original purple cloth; marbled end papers. The plates are all very clean with some tissue guards having become foxed a few fox spots on a few of the blank borders. The cloth is Very Good though all the cloth is gone from the spine. There is an engraved vignette of natives gathering the Corozo nut. A delightful illustrated handbill describing the uses of the nut of the Phytelephas macrocarpa palm. The vignette shows natives gathering the nuts. It became known as ' vegetable ivory ' because of its color hardness and ability to be worked by machine. It is still in demand for use as buttons it has a particular affinity for retaining color once dyed. The handbill is well printed and meas. 6.5 x 7.5 inches. Absent from OCLC.
